It's not only cloth. When they got added in a patch there was a thread asking the same. They actually have metal as protection inside the helmet, therefore more armor than the coif.

A coif doesnt have a lot of protection anyway... a coif is more an addition to other helmets, but I wouldnt wish to fight someone and get hit to the head when just wearing a coif irl. Cant say about those other 2 helmets but if its true that they have metal in them, they do indeed give a bit more protection.

edit: I dont know if I am right, thats what Ive read. Cannot find the thread anymore though.

Hmmm interesting, that would explain it, I hope you are right but im not so convinced :? plus the fact that they don't give any protection to the sides of your head, hopefully someone can post some evidence and I can rest easy (I can't seem to find anything when googling Boerk or Solak helmets)

I was playing a mod the other day in which armours and helmets only protected areas that they covered.

It was interesting because a strong helmet like a kettle helmet was useless against spears as they would hit the unprotected face. Pretty cool.

It wouldn't really be worthwhile with armour in cRPG but if breastplates were introduced the back would be left unarmoured but the front would be very well defended.
PK is back

PK is a collection of elites from throughout modern and ancient history. Giants of Calradia individually, as a group these gods of combat shatter all expectations and ascend to a higher plain of victory that only a few have seen before.

I've lobbied hard before to get fully enclosed helmets (the top tier ones) to protect better against OP headshot damage that arrows do but the my old friendcher whine is just too strong.

As for the helmets mentioned in this thread, perhaps the metal part is that bronzed looking round bit in which the cloth is attached too...? Dunno, either way, i'd take a coif irl.

i'd take a coif irl.

Me too, even if underneath the cloth the Boerk and Solak helmet have the hardest steel possible they only give protection to the top of your head leaving the rest fully exposed including the throat area, all of that flesh on sight would make you an easy target for your blood thirsty opponents.

Thats a pretty cool idea, Probably too time consuming to implement, but it would be really interesting to see and would completely change the way people fight.

The problem with the coif is that it doesn't distribute the kinetic energy very well. A good strike with any weapon will still smash your head in.

If the turk helmets really have a metal hat inside, they do protect better than the coif.

You stole my thread :(

However, it's worth reminding this kind of issues from time to time.

Tbh the low level of protection given by the mail coif is stupid. Even if it doesn't actually absorb a lot of energy from the blow, the key part is that it protects you quite efficiently against cutting weapons by transforming the attack into a blunt one covering a much wider zone of impact, applying less energy per surface and lessening the actual damage.

But anyway if we really wanted it to be realistic, the mail coif would be quite heavy and cheap as well, and that wouldn't translate well in the mod.

I guess great minds think alike

Yea I'd like the stats to be slightly improved too, even just put it up to 25 would be cool. I'm still not 100%convinced about these Boerk and Solak helmets tho  :?
