This is a pretty good idea.

Now my suggestion is:
Make it so that if your character is slain in battle, your character gets removed. Now that's what hardcore is!

Lol.

Permadeath wouldn't make sense in cRPG. Everyone would be constant peasants. Whoever is the first to survive long enough and break through the peasant stages becomes a demigod and crowned king of cRPG, ridding the server of any competition.

Maybe if your character would always be lvl 30 on hardcore, but with starter gear(with the option to transfer stuff from main). That way you'd lose the character and its items but still have a chance to beat noobs with high tier gear.

Effectively creating another money sink. :P

I like the idea of hardcore mode, but with all the changes you've suggested, I think we would need an additional c-rpg dev team just to work on it.

Hardcore/realism mode? Sure ... just fix or remove the high end 2h swords and polearm axes and make the pikes unable to block. Otherwise you can't really call it realism mode.

What's realistic about removing historically accurate weapons? Are you stupid?

Agree on the pike though, they shouldn't block anything.

Come now, we both know that you're the one who knows nothing about swords. Do notice how I wrote fix/remove.

i would try it  :). Yet sadly it would very propable become unballanced imo. Only a few superior setups would be played , while sacrificing diversity for realism, thus become boring fast and i would leave again  :(

Permadeath is too much; having to make a new char after every round seems.....dumb.

I suggest a maim system as an alternative. You keep your char but if you die you lose attribute or/and skill points. You also lose gold to pay the doc.

So you can keep character but also suffer a little.

The permadeath thing :)... Had to think about day z.

Could be interesting.

I'm dreaming of...

Gain WPF, strength, Agi by fighting (all thyne hard work....) not by xp or nerdy 24/7 gamesessions and multiplier rape.

And Skills by visiting training camps - servers where you cant die - but "skill your character" ... only wooden swords, deaths are not permanent - tho you cant get the cool equipment.

If you feel ready then to join an army and fight, you get your ass up to those battlefieldservers. Where you can spawn any time at your teams camp - but only once. If you die - you have to start all over again - OR your teammates save you... When you get wounded, get back to the camp and get your self a corpsman. Or you'll suffer penalties (like bjord said). Other cool realism feature would be if you could drag or carry "unconcious" or wounded friends out of the dangerous zone... Headshots and hits are instant deaths and cant be healed.

So you might get a good helmet ( if first person, a visor-mask-thing would be awesome... the heavier your helmet the less you'll be able to see. But the chance of instant deaths is smaller.

XP (killing enemies - surviving several battles - SAVING TEAMMATES) could give you like a better awareness of friends and foes ? Or useage/visibility of banners  / Flags or special items... like kill 5 enemies, get a officer's sword or a flag or something.

Polls on each server who should be a teams officers (only those players wearing officer's swords are pollable) - like a ban poll but in a cool way. Officers can give orders, soldiers have to obey or they arent displayed as friends for the whole team (That would be the kujak mode)

And: Your Chars stats are only saved if you return to the camp after your fight. So if you just leave - your dead. As in reallife - when you get unconcious on the battlefield you're screwed.

If you loose connection hope, that your mates get you back to the save-zone where you are healed and where you can rest (and disconnect without dying)

Start coding will you?!

Bodkin`s were made to penetrate plate...

Not exactely, bodkins had been around since the dark ages, if they penetrated plate or not is a matter of debate. Steel heads certainly had a good chance though.

Mails were made to resist normal arrows,
Bodkins were made to penetrate Mails,
Plates were made to resist Bodkins,
Firearms were made to penetrate plate,
Tanks were made to run them all over.
