Get yourself everything that costs less than 30 certs first. Of course, no need to buy two scopes for the same gun, two different suits for a single class etc.

Try out different things. All stock vehicules are decent, although they vastly improve with (extremely costly) weapon "side"grades.

Then purchase a few additional ranks of the ability and suit for the classes that you use (also C4 for the LA, and the medic/engi tools are very important), purchase the first ranks of the speed/defense/utility for the vehicules that you use.

When everything interesting starts costing in the 100-200s you might want to start saving for weapons (like the carbine with a grenade launcher for the LA/engi)

Came back to PS2 recently and must say it has definitely improved.  Performance has gotten better, redesigned bases and weapons have made game play far more enjoyable and redesigned continents are making the over all experience far better.

Would recommend people give it another try if they haven't played in a while.

Ive heard completely the opposite that it's in fact now better optimised for AMD cards than Nvidia.

Yeah FPS has increased and the servers are more stable.

What bothered me the most is that PS2 was just such a vehicle fest. The costs and cooldowns were way too low and everyone was spamming tanks and shit. There was no infantry battles whatsoever except for Crown and Biolab. Doubt that changed.

Vehicle spawn time and cost has been increased while vehicle resource gain has been reduced.  At the end of the day its a Combined arms game for a infantry shooter.  Definitely more Infantry based combat but still vehicles a plenty at times, but only effective when organised properly.

That would be cool. I´m downloading it again, I remember I downloaded it for a second time already some months ago, performance still was very bad for me at that time. I hope it really changed.

EDIT:

Accordin to this : http://www.gamestar.de/spiele/planetside-2/artikel/planetside_2_im_technik_check,46676,3007368,5.html  (scroll down abit to see the table)

my GPU AND my CPU are in the deep green, my RAM ANYWAY. The game shoudve run smooth since at least since February this year (where this test is from), but it didn´t when I last checked.

I really really doubt it has gotten any better, because, why should it :(

One can hope though.

Running everything on minimum except using max render distance i get good performance on my laptop.

Actually this changed a lot. A river of infantry tears soon turned into vehicle (and especially air) blood. ESF are like paper now and rockets hardly do anything to infantry unless it's a direct hit. I seldom get killed by tanks or aircraft (not like I did much when they were supposedly OP either). At some point lock-on launchers were so ridiculous I suspect half the air players just GTX, but now only TR keep on using them frequently because we have a lock-on 5-shot launcher that can lock on air and armor. All in all it's quite balanced now and lock-ons are getting another nerf in an upcoming patch so it's going to be even better soon.

They also added a few gameplay possibilities, with SMGs and the fact that infiltators can use them, very powerful but hard to use pump action shotguns, large caliber sidearms, new (much better) MAX anti-armor weapons, time-limited missions with rewards, buggies...

The problem remains that too many battles are completely one-sided though, because even large bases are still too hard to defend, while small stations are simply worthless. Also, the derp waiting when you already won a base attack is just derp.

The game is badly optimised for AMD CPUs (like quite a few games might I add, developpers just seem to forget about those), but most ATI and Nvidia single GPUs work nicely enough. The game is very CPU intensive and doesn't scale well. Even with a beastly CPU you won't get great FPS in battles with hundreds of players.

About performance, PlanetSide 2 has weird settings, lower quality textures in fact decreasing performance and whatnot. There are a few very good, if not slightly old guides around, just google planetside 2 performance.

I´d love to play it, but my problem is that I got AMD and not nvidia, and all the like 100 threads I searched about fps problems in PS2 said something like: It´s just badly optimized and they totally forgot to make it playable on ANY AMD system" ....

I'm getting a steady 50-60 fps with Radeon HD 6850 with most settings maxed out(shadows on normal and vsync disabled), be it a small or massive conflict.
But yeah the game's heavier on your CPU, I'm sporting an Intel i7 2600k at the moment.

Actually this changed a lot.

The base design was also altered and some smaller bases are now a lot more covered from vehicle fire. Also Esamir now has trees. :o

So sony still sucks, PS2 is still poorly optimized.

The part that I like and hate at the same time now is that aircrafts are incapable of doing anything worthwhile unless teaming up. When popping a lib or ESF you can't just go help at the first battle you see because chances are there'll be AA there and you will be shredded to pieces before you even see where the enemies are. Playing aircrafts is a game of survival and patience because you really have to find some spot where the enemy is deployed without AA to start being useful, and that is rare indeed ever since they introduced the lattice system. Unlike before, you simply can't fight AA back or even stay around long enough to do damage to enemies in the vicinity. All in all it's really unrewarding in the way of certs. Night vision vehicule optics also have been heavily nerfed with a much smaller range but more importantly no more white flashing on targets, so thermal optics have become mandatory if you want to spot infantry, be it using a tank or aircraft, but the range wasn't increased so it is extremely short.

Running everything on minimum except using max render distance i get good performance on my laptop.

Max render distance isn't useful at all, and you can get a nice performance boost by decreasing it. Set it to 800 or more if you frequently use air but anything above 1500 is completely useless. If you don't use air 300 is fine.

So sony still sucks, PS2 is still poorly optimized.

It's still not possible to play on a potato but you can get decent framerates with a 3 years old machine and good tweaking.

AMD Phenom II x6  1055T 2.80 GHz

According to this : http://www.gamestar.de/spiele/planetside-2/artikel/planetside_2_im_technik_check,46676,3007368,5.html

I am in the deep green with my CPU, and when gamestar says they tested something, I trust them (at least when it comes to hardware/performance things) ... SO don´t tell me CPU is too weak  :|

Have you tried unparking it ? I heard on some AMD processors people gained 20 to 40 FPS.

Yeah performance isn't really my concern i just love being able to see really far.

Also a single ESF shouldn't be able to have an effect on the battlefield, its moronic if you believe it should.  As i said its all about combined arms, if people are stupid enough to forget AA then aircraft are effective.

Easiest way to score points is pick off sunders that are supporting a base attack, AA always seems to forget about them.
