A. Challenger Rules
Teams may challenge other teams upwards on the ladder (not downwards), up to 3 ranks above their own rank. When challenging, the challenging team captain must provide a minimum of two acceptable times and a suggested server via PM for the match and must forward their scheduling messages to a ladder administrator. If a team loses a challenge on the offense, they must challenge a different team or defend against a different team for their next match. You cannot challenge a team that is already involved in a challenge. Upon completion of a challenge, the challenging team cannot issue another challenge for 3 days or until they have defended against challenge (whichever comes first).
B. Defender Rules
Defenders must either agree to a proposed time in a challenge or provide at least two more suitable times and a more suitable server if necessary. This exchange must be forward to a tournament administrator. Once a final time is decided, the match will be announced by a ladder administrator or one of the team captains. Negligence* on behalf of the defending team regarding scheduling may result in loss of challenge or rank, or removal from the ladder. If a team loses a challenge on the defense, they must challenge a different team or defend against a different team for their next match. Upon completion of defending a challenge, the defending team is immune to challenges for 3 days or until they have completed a challenge of their own (whichever comes first).
C. Conflict Arbitration
If both teams make reasonable attempts at scheduling but are unable to find a suitable time, a ladder administrator may choose to cancel the challenge to allow the two teams to face others and return to their original challenge at a later date. If one team is negligent* in their attempts to schedule a match, they may be penalized by loss of the match or rank, or removal from the ladder. Failure to provide notice of challenges and scheduling to tournament administrators unnecessarily complicates the workings of the ladder, and your team may be penalized.
D. Top Four Exception
The top four teams on the ladder are partially exempt from the challenger/defender rules in the following way: these four teams are allowed to re-challenge (and are eligible to be challenged by) the last team they fought if five days pass without either team engaging in another challenge or defending against a challenge. In this way, the top four teams may continuously fight each other so long as no other teams challenge them.
* Negligence in this case implies apathy towards scheduling matches. If a team captain does not respond to a challenge within a week, he is considered negligent.
Server Selection- Server selection will be decided upon by both teams prior to the match. If the server chosen prior to the match is deemed unsuitable (abnormally high pings, high ping differences, frequent crashing or loss of connection, etc. for multiple players) then the two team captains must decide upon a new server, or agree to a postponement (up to 1 hour) or reschedule. All rescheduled matches and server changes must be forwarded to a tournament administrator.
Server Settings- 100% friendly fire to friend, 0% to self, melee and ranged friendly fire enabled, ranged enabled, minimum armor not enforced, map time 60 minutes or more, round time 6 minutes, battle game type, server password agreed upon by both teams, fastest combat speed, spectator locked to team (unless an approved individual has been allowed to record the match or spectators are agreed upon during scheduling, in which case it may be set to free mode. In this event, the match password will be posted in the match announcement).
Scoring- Matches will be play in a Best of 3 format in maps first to win 2 maps wins the match
each map will bee played first to 7 rounds
Tiebreakers
In the event of a tiebreaker, the defending team chooses a map that 1) has not been previously played and 2) is not from a category previously used by either team. The defending team also chooses their spawn, while the attacking team chooses first faction. Factions are not restricted on the final map, though they may not be mirrored. Tiebreakers are played to best of 8, with a faction/spawn swap and map reset after 4 rounds. The third map determines the victor of the match. See Scoring rules for information regarding overall match draws.
Sportsmanship & Conduct
Friendly banter amongst teams during the course of a match is allowed. Trash-talking, flaming, harassment, and unfriendly taunting is not allowed. Partaking in such activities may result in penalization, such as forfeiture of rounds. If a referee is not present, screenshots of such actions are necessary to properly pass judgment on such accusations. If a team is unsportsmanlike to an excessive degree, an administrator may choose for the teams to replay the match or may auto-forfeit the offending team.
Fairness of Play
The honor system is in effect, and as such it is expected of all teams that they do not partake in the act of ghosting, cheating, hacking, exploiting, or otherwise undermining the fairness of the match. Ghosting is an act by which information regarding a match is relayed through a 3rd-party program that would not be possible within the confines of the game. This means that once you are dead, you may not abuse the freedom of spectator mode to warn teammates or expose enemy positions. Teams may send one representative each to the opposing teams ventrilo/teamspeak/mumble/etc. if they suspect the opposing team of ghosting. Both teams must send a representative, or this is not allowed. If a team is accused of ghosting, a referee will sit in their VoIP server in their next match. Accusations of cheating, hacking, and glitch exploitation must be paired with screenshots/video evidence or multiple 3rd-party witness accounts (spectators) before they are considered plausible or proven. Teams found to be cheating or hacking will be immediately removed from the ladder and the players banned from play for the duration of the season. Repeat offenders will be banned permanently from all seasons.
Disputes
Disputes must be filed in a reasonable amount of time after the conclusion of a match, and they must be sent via PM to a ladder administrator with all accompanying evidence. Evidence provided after the accusation is made will be suspect. Ladder administrators will determine the proper means by which accusations will be handled on a case-by-case basis.
Rescheduling
If a team cannot field sufficient players for their match at the scheduled time and cannot fill out their team within 20 minutes, they may reschedule with their opponent in the first instance of this occurrence. Their opponent must make an effort to reschedule for the first instance. If a second instance occurs, then the challenge will be cancelled and both teams must face other teams next or the offending team may have the match forfeited, subject to the decision of a ladder administrator. All rescheduling attempts must be forwarded to ladder administrators..
In the event that the rules contained herein are found to be inadequate for whatever reason, the ladder administrators will make acknowledgments of any flaws found herein upon review. Changes will be proposed and voted upon by all ladder administrators. In the event of a virtually unanimous vote, the rules will be changed accordingly and announced on the forums. The changes will not go into effect until a week after their announcement. If a decision cannot be made by the ladder administrators, then the proposed changes and accompanying arguments will be posted publicly for team captains to vote on.
Ladder administrators are volunteers chosen from the community to maintain order and efficiency during the ladder seasons. Their judgment is final on all matters, and ladder administrators are not barred from participating in the ladder. However, ladder administrators may not pass judgment on situations they are personally involved in or in which their team is involved. Another 3rd-party ladder administrator must be called upon to resolve these matters.
Ladder administrators are required to follow a standardized procedure when handling disputes. All disputes are resolved with escalating penalties for those involved. There are three stages of escalation, with the first carrying no consequences and the third carrying the most severe. The second level carries moderate penalties. Most offenses will result in a single level of escalation against the offending team or player, whereas multiple infractions or specific single infractions may result in greater penalization. These shall be detailed.
Player & Team Disputes
Sportsmanship violations (per player)
Individual players that poorly represent their team and violate the rules regarding sportsmanship will be warned for a single instance of poor sportsmanship. A repeated offense by the same player in the same match will result in that player being benched for the remainder of the map (if a substitute is available) or in the team being issued a warning (if no substitute is available). In the event that a poor sportsman is involved in a third violation (and there is a substitute available) then that player is benched for the remainder of the match and their team is issued a warning, however if the team has already been issued a warning because of this player (because no substitute is available) then they are issued a second warning and risk forfeiture of the map with the score at the time of the infraction being counted as final for the map and victory being afforded to the other team.
Sportsmanship violations (per team)
In the event that multiple members of a team violate the rules of sportsmanship, the team as a whole will be warned. Repeat offenses by multiple team members (not necessarily the same members) will result in further warnings being issued. A second warning carries the penalty of map forfeiture with score at time of violation being counted as final. A third warning against the team as a whole will result in match forfeiture and jeopardized ladder standing per judgment of the ladder admins.
Glitch Exploitation
Use of a glitch (with or without knowledge of its nature) is punishable on a first offense by benching the violating player (if a substitute is available) or with a warning against the team as a whole (if no substitute is available). A second offense by the same player in the same map will result in map forfeiture for the offending team (if no substitute is available) or benching of the offending player for the remainder of the match (if a substitute is available). Glitch exploitation by multiple members of a team will result in forfeiture of the map with the score at time of violation being counted as final for that map.
Hacking
Instant, permanent removal from all ladder play and map forfeiture for the offending team. If a substitute cannot be found, the match is scored according to the current score with the offending team as the loser.
Illegal Substitutions
This encompasses use of players during a match that are not on a team's roster or are not yet eligible to play for that team. A first offense will result in removal of the individual from play and a warning against the team. Second offenses will result in map forfeiture, with third offenses resulting in match forfeiture. Illegal substitutions spotted after a match has been played will result in a replay of the map if both teams are not involved in a challenge and the match is not disputed in any other way. If the match is otherwise disputed or if either team is occupied with a challenge, then the map is considered forfeit for the opposing team and match victory will be reconsidered.
Match Disputes
No-Shows
If a team fails to field 6 players at their agreed upon time, they are issued a warning. A second offense results in first map forfeiture (map/faction selection also cycles, so a second offense by a defending team forfeits their first map/spawn selection, allowing the challenging team to pick map/spawn in the first played map). A third offense results in match forfeiture, with a victory being afforded to the opposing team.
Server Settings & Selections
If a match is played on a server for which one team is responsible and the server settings do not follow NASTe regulations, a dispute may be filed by the opposing team captain for which the penalty of a first offense is a warning and replay of all maps played under illegal settings, or map forfeiture if a replay is inconvenient for both teams. Second offenses will result in match forfeiture. If a match is played on a server for which both teams are responsible then both teams will be issued a warning and must replay all maps played under illegal settings. Second offenses will result in challenge cancellation. If a match is played on a server for which a third party is responsible, neither team will be penalized but the match must be replayed. It is the responsibility of both teams to ensure that server settings are within NASTe regulations.
Furthermore, if a team violates the map/spawn/faction selection order they shall be issued a warning and the map shall be replayed or forfeited in favor of the opposing team. Second offenses will result in map forfeiture.
Warnings against an entire team will carry over to the next immediate challenge for that team, after which they will be nullified. Consequences still escalate as they normally do. This is to say that a team may receive 2 warnings in one challenge, complete the challenge, and then be issued a warning in their next challenge. This gives a total of 3 warnings, which results in forfeiture of the match for the offending team. After completion of their second challenge, all old warnings are removed.
