It's a PR move, and a smart one. Even from this thread you can see that it works well.

Actually, in last months of development process, they work 3 times as much they did before. It's called crunch phase, for a reason.

I'm not saying they are gonna improve the game, just that they will work harder than in previous dev phase.

They promised it for the end of summer at first, (Q3) I wonder how much they'll actually change it at that point.

It's pre-alpha gameplay footage but there's a reason they're showing the game. 

And that reason is that they think it's already representative of the final product. Why would they showcase their game if it'll be completely different at release?

Edit: Also what cmp said. If the release is in a couple of months, HAHA. The game's only going to change very minimally then, they can't work on it for the whole time either. The combat looks clunky and the whole feel is cheap arcade-y.

Yes, but after it goes gold they can't work on it anymore. That'll eat away quite a lot of development time if they only have two months.

pre-alpha is their way of saying "we are in beta but don't know if people like our game yet." this is what battlefield 3 did, they called their beta pre-alpha and it didn't change on release

Yes, but in crunch time you don't work to add new features; you work to meet the deadlines that you're about to miss.

Huh? What does being released unfinished have to do with what I said? Unless you mean that they can add stuff later? Obviously but that's beyond the point... and do you think they'll dramatically increase combat speed and change animations after release? The game will be rated based on what it's like when it's released.
