So...

This sounds interesting
Probably not my cup of tea...
What, that is supposed to be a game?

Assuming this is not a troll post, as a HUGE fan of space simulators this sounds great.

I'd be surprised to see it happen though, spacegames are very expensive to run and make (Thats why egosoft wasnt done an MMO version of their X series of space games, which doesnt all that chadz posted, besides making your own ship - as in the shell, you do get your own parts and some modifications - and it also has perm death, but being a SP game, you just go back to your last 'save')

I've actually tried to get into the whole 4x elaborate game thing with Aurora, as advertised by Paul, but even as an advid Dwarf Fortress fan I've been unable to really get into it. There's really a limit to how much micromanagement people can take I think.

You tried X games ? I mean, the X series. The last one is X3:Terran Conflict. An x4 in space with FreeSpace-like 3D combat, industry, commerce and ship classes up to M1 ships that can haul several dozens of fighters. Oh yeah, a big open space and terrible quests. It's quite close to M&B SP.

Incidentally, the game described in the first post, April Fools joke or not, is identical to the game design I have been wanting to see someone make since roughly forever.

Just the concept of multi-crew ships is cool and I hope to see that some day.

My vision of it would be that you generally have "captains" and "crew" with crew slots being something that can be filled on the fly.  So a ship might not need a gunner 100% of the time but when the action starts, he can call for one and someone waiting for a crew slot to open can jump when needed.  Similarly, you could have boarding action where captains can call for boarding party crews to sign up when needed, versus sitting in room on the ship somewhere with your thumb up your butt waiting for the one time security personnel are actually needed.

Anyway, I hope someone makes that game one day.  The only multi-crew vehicles I ever see are in WW2 games.
Crush your enemies; see them driven before you; hear the lamentations of their women.

*Switchable gravity generators. (Imagine the rage of the circling fighters beginning to get sucked into the hull! The tradeoff is that it will be a bitch to land in the hangars..)

*Engines that performs max only during supervision. (AKA il2)

*Autogenerated planets with autogenerated cities, shaft style. (like in incal!)

Of course you need to be very concentrated on your task and it can get boring fast, but imagine the awesomeness.

You could build up crews that become better the longer they play together, and after some weeks of playtime people will be good at it and awesome fights will come and go...
Maybe it woud be better for me to find out where you life and kill you when you are satch a Soziopath. You have enough now.

Well the engine technology could be particularly unstable, forcing the mechanic to switch between a large number of engines, having to do repairing minigames as fast and good as possible.
