Weren't people just basically exploiting the bad AI anyways? Getting the NPC mobs stuck on fences and then outranging them with long polearms?

I liked DTV very much. Reasons: a goal, everybody works together, everybody on the SAME team (no whining about other players), can wear my good gear without being bitched at by haters (AI doesn't cry like humans). Maybe people wouldn't need to exploit if they were allowed to have horses so we weren't all forced into siege mode.
