We stopped being a republic years and years ago. We are a bureaucracy (the government that makes a religion out of conformity), where almost every aspect of our lives is increasingly regulated. We get caught up in the "big" issues of our figurehead - wars, universal health care, while day by day, year by year, the 13% of working adults who are working for federal, stae, or local government or government agencies slowly do their "jobs" and create ever more regulations stealing away our personal freedom and making us more and more like conforming clones. Every year there are enough new regulations to fill as many pages as the bible and they only get more and more of them. Bureaucracies don't know how to shrink, they are the worst form of aristocracy as they grow ever larger until they become a parasite on the rest of the country that actually works (much like lords were to peasants, but more by sheer numbers than flagrant abuse of money) and the country crumbles from within by overwhelming debt as such a large portion of the population has become part of the bureaucracy financed by everyone else. None of these people have really anythign to do with our election system, which only elects figureheads and keeps us occupied and distracted into thinking we actually have a representative form of government anymore.
My 2 cents for the day.
