Apologies for the pitiful performance. My latency was being throttled tonight for some reason. That castle is a bitch to attack, i'm sure we'll do better next time!

The castle flags gave me a hard time. Literally spent a minute and a half trying to lower one while no one was looking and couldn't do it.

Apparently there's some deal where you can't lower flags that are on a roof if there are people standing in the area one floor below.


Anyway, the only thing I'd say change next time is maybe split the force into 2-3 groups: left side, right side and maybe frontal.  Make sure each group has at least one good ladder thrower (maybe setup a practice server just for this).

I had no trouble putting up ladders -- there are multiple spots that even the regular wooden ladders were reaching.  Siege ladders would have opened a few new paths but aren't strictly necessary to create openings.  I think the bigger problem was just that we'd have an opening and then get bottlenecked fighting there as the defense rallied.  By splitting up I think we'd do better, particularly in that castle.


Siege towers aren't worth it, imo.  I don't see where they did anything other than cause us a lot of problems because the terrain was too steep in too many places.  Maybe that's something else that can be tried in a practice server somewhere -- see if there's a good place to use it that makes more sense than just using ladders -- or maybe just as an archer tower.

Yeah I think ladders played a pretty significant role though, we didn't have large enough ones. There were spots that if we could get ladders to, we wouldn't have to worry about them going down because the defenders couldn't reach them unless they wasted a ladder themselves.

The overall killer for the battle though was really the terrain around the walls, it was entirely too steep. You'd put a ladder up, and it would appear to be a good one, but by the time the game figured out the incline of the ladder you just put up, it would not let you up (which is funny because ladders are meant to climb, and not just used as ramps).



Oh well, back to the drawing board!
