Hmmm, with the buckler you should dodge arrows, not block them. Maybe take the buckler when you got lighter armour and the knightly heather when you got heavier? Also, remember that you can move your shield up/down, works for me (most of the time) to stop arrows when I use a buckler. Surprises archers who aim for my feet/head all the time 
(I also do this with normal shields, but it's more important with the buckler)
Ahhh thanks for the tip! I've just been heading straight at them LOL. I think I'll stick with the buckler for now then.
