I've been playing the Native Expansion mod for M&B a lot, so I've been listening to my M&B playlist. Blows the default soundtrack out of the water. Go wander Calradia and conquer some dudes. Old-school European and Mongolian music for the most part. Some 8-bit and 16-bit music too since it's a videogame

I love Earthbound. Never played during the SNES era but I got a cartridge for $20 in ~2009 or so at a local used games shop. The cashier was like "oh, they must have mislabeled the price!" but let me have it. I fell in love pretty much right away. Besides the totally unique storyline and bizarre locales, the soundtrack is amazing.

Anyway, here's my favorite artist, Casino Versus Japan. It's IDM (like Boards of Canada) but the syrup-slow beats and echoing synth/keyboard remind me of chopped-n-screwed stuff. Perfect for late fall/winter listening. This is the sound of sledding down a tiny hill at night under the orange glow of sodium street lamps... the sound of staring out a window at snowfall while you wait for mom to take the Christmas cookies out of the oven. This is the soundtrack to tropical daydreams, an escape from the reality of winter.

Listen, and slowly sink into your seat.

"Hawaii is high in postal workers, and places in Hawaii have exotic sounding names with lots of vowels. Hawaii is anchored to the ocean floor by igneous rock. In Hawaii people will never know the joy of coming out of a six month winter to find new grass growing on the ground. In Hawaii icicles don't exist outside of of television and freezers."

pure bliss

Walking through two feet of snow on an unplowed sidewalk, mid-day. There's no one else around...

The first heavy snow of winter. Build a snowman; build a fort. Come inside and have a cup of hot chocolate. Ho ho ho, I love the snow... One, two three!

yeah lets melt

These all have well-done music videos but this first one hurts. Gets you right in the nostalgia. Do you remember back then? Do you remember everyone? All the stupid things we used to do...

This one was made entirely on an Amiga desktop computer. It was played on public broadcast TV. This is the real shit.

Yeah, Amiga music production is mostly done on VSTs known as a tracker (there are many different music trackers out there). In the music video you can even see the tracker, it looks complex at first but its easy once you learn how to program each function. I love me some trackers, when I used to mess around with music production I used trackers exclusively (I would use Renoise myself, sometimes SunVox and Milkyway). Just a fun fact :D

Anyway back to the music.

^This is my favorite song. Absolutely powerful lyrics and presentation, along with a beautiful yet haunting voice.
Lyrics can be found @ http://perturbator.bandcamp.com/track/desire-feat-greta-link

^This track features two of my favorite artists out there. If you are a big of fan of them as I am, you can tell which part is done by which artist, and their influence on the ambiance in the background.

^A song I often like to listen to when I am really depressed.

^Awesome remix of the above song with vocals
