In game gold for services owed.

I know there's a marketplace, so i assume things can be sold for in game coin.

That being said, is there any way at all to be paid for mercenary work, or is this something that can't be done? Suppose a faction needed extra muscle on the battlefield and freelancers wanted to help out for a fee. Is this possible?
I once heard a man say "Only my old friends say knightly shit"
He then took an axe to the head.

The answer is yes, there are ways to transfer money to people, however outside of strategus there really isn't any point.  Regular servers are autobalanced, so you couldn't guarantee your mercenaries being on your team.

The way to do it, by the way, is having the person to be paid putting up some low worth item (straw hats are typical) for the fee price, then the payer buying it.
