Ist Zeitgeist so ein Wort wie Kindergarten oder Blitzkrieg oder benutzen die Amis es einfach nur weils anscheinend cooler klingt? ;)
Only the Americans use kindergarten. Sensible English types think it sounds ridiculous, not cool.
It's just because English speaking countries are quite lazy, so they steal other people's words for things instead of making their own. Though German has a strangely more creative, or at least easier, way of describing new concepts that I think English doesn't have - if you want a new word for a new concept or idea you just find all the words that sort of/nearly describe it and stick them all together
Which is why we use Zeitgeist - in English you can't stick spirit and time together, you have to put 'of the' in there, which makes it clumsier to say.
