Chemists have taken an important step in making artificial life forms from scratch. Using a novel chemical reaction, they have created self-assembling cell membranes, the structural envelopes that contain and support the reactions required for life.

Doesn't cyborg imply biogenic components of some extent?

If it's fully biological and can sustain itself with natural means it wouldn't need biogenic implants. Maybe if we wanted to control its mind (i.e drones for labour and whatnot), if such a thing could even be artificially created, perhaps then an implant would be used. But what makes a cyborg a cyborg anyway? Just out of curiosity.

BBC Horizon 2012 Playing God

Adam Rutherford meets a new creature created by American scientists, the spider-goat. It is part goat, part spider, and its milk can be used to create artificial spider's web. It is part of a new field of research, synthetic biology, with a radical aim: to break down nature into spare parts so that we can rebuild it however we please. This technology is already being used to make bio-diesel to power cars. Other researchers are looking at how we might, one day, control human emotions by sending 'biological machines' into our brains.

Hey look here, guys! Finally some actualy sci-fi around! There's been literally nothing other than horribad sci-fi shows lately.  Finally some proper space battles!

And it's even pretty good. Almost worthy of Battlestar Galactica

Space Above and Beyond

I'll always remember watching this as a kid. It was a lot like the rebooted BSG in retrospect. Probably the best finale in a Sci Fi TV show IMO, certainly the most gutsiest with an epic battle where all the main characters die separately and in heroic fashion. The Firefly one felt like a cop out and BSGs was horrible.

Book is great though, but it would seem that they're not really doing anything but (ab)using the name. Hopefully they'll at least have some of the main events from the book in the movie.

Finished Altered Carbon recently. Thanks for the tip Korin, I really liked it! Nice world + characters and lots of things to think about. The story is more like a classical detective story but still very good.

Like I always wondered, is he right that smoking addiction so heavily depends on the sleeve only? My guess is the data/brain/memory/whatever plays a much greater part in this.

Just FYI, Warhammer 40000: Heresy of Horus is an awesome sci-fi (yes, actual sci-fi, rather than fantasy) book series (15 books total, written by a group of authors). Highly recommended.
