Any experiences with heirloomed buckler?

I think about heirlooming a buckler. I play 1h/board and want a fast and reliable shield. Imho the buckler is very fast and a good shield against non shield breaking weapons.
But about 2 - 3 hits with a 2h shieldbreaker and its broken.

Atm i play a 18/18 build, but before I had a 21/15 char. 21/15 worked much better for me so the shield skill is 5 (4 if str 12 works also (unfortunately good armor is expensive now)).

Any experiences with a heirloomed buckler? Better idea?

I use the Knighly Heater Shield. its fast and has reliable HP. What is important as a shielder is, that your shield is only temporary. When you face an opponent with weapons vs. shields, remove you shield and manual block. When you face pike men etc. bring forward you shield again etc.

It is quite tricky in melee combat because it has only a small blocking zone. So you have to turn more toward incoming attacks and you are extremely vulnerable against side attacks.
And forget it against ranged. Every now and then you will catch a projectile but most of them will get through.

Even a three times heirloomed bucker lose against an anti-shield-weapon (which are mostly heirloomed as well) quite fast.

Bottom line is that shieldbreakers break shields, even if you heirloom. It helps a bit though and so does higher shield skill.

With shield 4 i notice my huscarl breaks a lot faster than with shield 5 or shield 6. If you rely on your shield a lot, it's not a bad investment.

Imo, you're better off with an elite cavalry shield or knightly heater shield.

Both of those shields have 100 speed and reasonable armour/hp. Their biggest bonus is their cost. They're both less than half as expensive as a buckler is. Leaves more room for armour in your load out.
Their biggest downside compared to the buckler is durability, but vs axes and the like it's 1 (maybe even 2) hits. In regular melee, they take a lot less hits so either learn how to manual block or look for new shields on the floor when yours gets broken.

I don't see the point of bucklers. Bucklers don't allow your to turtle and only works to block specific hits.
Get a huscarl, become a turtle and be useful to your team besides making kills.

ShinySpoons is correct: bucklers are cool lookin indeed. I'm trying to go for a duelist look (padded armor, no helmet, all 1h skillz), and I think the sexy buckler just completes the epicness.

But yeah it sucks defending against ranged attacks. Sheild breakers also... break it. Honestly huscarl sheild or heaters are much better, but they aren't nearly as cool.

To complete your epicness as a duelist with a 1h weapon, I suggest dropping shields alltogether. Bring 1 to close in to the frontline, then put it away and manual block yourself to victory!

Thx to all for info and opinion. I decided not to heirloom a shield. It seems you dont get a wonder-shield...

Also, I'd recommend the Norman shield for heirlooming. I have one and it makes a big difference in the amount of hits you can take. Shieldbreakers are usually surprised by how much damage it will take.

I'm currently practising my manual blocking to be able to do that. I'm getting better, but it's still hard for me.
I do seem to be able to chamber during duels more than others my skill level for some reason.

Kickass, Spawny! I'm gonna try going shieldless occasionally. I bet dropping your shield right before engaging someone will be really confusing for them.
