Don't bother anyhow. Just go fight the guy in tutorial, no lag and you won't die so no time wasted running to the bot. After you get a bit better, the Nditions champion fighter is pretty nice to practice against.
Meaning lies as much
in the mind of the reader
as in the Haiku.

Tutorial Bots are how I practiced chambering and a lot of my blocking. Now I can actually chamber with overheads and not rely on complete luck.

Great way to practice, I second what Xant said.
I'm not normal and I don't pretend so, my approach is pretty much a bomb crescendo.
Death is a fun way to pass the time though, several little bullets moving in staccato.

Hey there. Sorry if one of our guys was being mean. the way you learn to parry is sorta like this...

1.) Timing

your timing is the most important thing to learn; you can have the right direction and the right button, but it really doesnt matter at all if you don't time it right.

2.) Reflexes

part of timing and blocking in general is regulated by reflexes; your ability to react to a known situation quickly.

3.) Prediction

being able to see one step ahead of a problem is helpful in any situation. chess anyone?

4.) Position

your position to the persons attack can mean no reaction time to alot of it. you can cause other people to glance if you are in the right spot. you can even evade them and move in for a swing.  footwork is very important.

i started knowing little to nothing about 6 months ago; i started as a polearm and realized i sucked. went into the Risen and was trained by thovex, razzen, and GTX. after i went shield and got comfortable, i decided to make an NA clan with some of what i had learned, and ended up making Knights of the Black Rose. The Condemned, The Kingdom of Haven, and the Keepers of Abbadon were all formed by EX-Members of our clan, and has hosted some of the brightest fighters in CRPG.

I remember i would fight Cyranule and get creamed. when i fight him now... well i still get creamed :D   but at least i get some hits in. i can go toe to toe with alot of people i see in duel, and i keep about a 1:1 kd with my character.

i would like to offer a hand as for the longest time, i have trained others to teach myself how to fight better, as well as almost all of our members are from people trying to improve, and for people who have shown prowess in duel.

if you would like, i'd like to train you, and introduce you to the clan. please pm me your reply.

Sincerely,
               Sir Edward lV

Set game speed to very slow and combat AI to poor.

Go to tutorial and start practice blocking, without attacking.

If you succeed in it, slowly bring up the game speed and the AI.

I did this until i could block easily at very fast and good AI. Then i practiced the timing between blocking and attacking ( on the same difficulty).

After i could do that good, i went to duel servers.

And the rest is history.

I wouldn't suggest fighting AI.

But I played archer/HA so long I barely had a clue how to manual block as I hardly ever had to use it. I faced similar problems that you had. I started a 2h alt and practised for a long time on the duel servers. That's the only way to get good I'm afraid. Practice. You have to work out what is best for you situation and get used to the way your mouse works, hell even down to the way you sit ect. I know I went home and used my Dad's computer and the way it worked was completely different to mine. Expect to be owned on the duel servers for a fair time, especially because some good players are on them. But you'll be surprised how much you improve if you spend a couple of hours on a duel server against some guys who can block. I'd also suggest wearing some decent armour, just so you can prolong the duels when you do take hits.

Ignore the thing about moving your entire hand 1inch. That's suicide. The game is very sensitive and you only need to move you mouse a small amount to make the block direction change. Not even really a flick of the wrist. Though I do sometimes find my mouse sliding off the edge of the desk in really intense duels

There is no timing in blocking, it's either be on time or be too late, but you can't be too early.

I think he is refering to holding the block for too long thus robbing yourself of a proper counterattack.

If you really want to learn how to block/play the game, start with just blocking in the tutorial, and then play native on fastest. cRPG will seem easy after playing that for afew months.

Hey, Sir_Donke y here. For you I think the problem is the hand movement. I used to hold my mouse tilted and my flick my wrist to block, and I would end up blocking the wrong direction all the time.

I suggest you be more conscious of the direction you are moving your mouse, and learn the hand/wrist movement for each block direction that will work every single time. Open up microsoft paint and try drawing straight vertical and horizontal lines over and over. The directions you move your mouse to obtain perfect horizontal and vertical lines are the directions you move your mouse to block.

Learn the movements and constantly practice the blocking drills I showed you in the duel server. Keep practicing until you can repeat the drills over and over without messing up a block. Remember, the drills are made for your wrist to obtain muscle memory of every block direction, once you have that muscle memory, you will never mess up a block.
