Yeah, I have an easier time hitting with axes and if you miss, they don't tend to vanish into the distance like the javelin-type weapons.
I just wish I could pick up other people's throwing weapons -- lots of jarids and spears out there. But PT6 is way too much wpf required unless you want to wear light armor, and then you're basically a pure thrower.
Incidentally, one nice advantage of throwing vs crossbows as an infantry backup weapon: crossbows are almost useless against cavalry, unless you can stand somewhere they can't hit you. Foot crossbow vs mounted crossbow, the mounted guy will just knock you down over and over while he continues to reload and shoot. Even if you have a pikeman bodyguard, a horse crossbowman will interrupt half your reloads.
Whereas anyone trying to knock down a thrower will be lucky not to get an axe in the face. Crossbow horsemen usually stand well back and shoot at me with pretty limited success from 30+ meters because they have an axe stuck in their horse (or leg) from the time they came closer.
