Query: Should we bring back fief voting for next strat?

See title. Personally I think anything that gets us into the swing of things quicker in regards to strat is better. We no longer have the novelty factor to keep people around while they wait a few months for strat to get fired up like back at the end of strat 4 (when they took fief voting out). We must maintain our forward momentum in regards to population.

I also believe that is the way to go.

Every idea that means that the next Strategus round reach critical mass faster than normal (factions properly installed, border gore fixed, gears in place, large trading and big battles is the norm) is much needed.
I think fief voting is PARTICULARLY needed to encourage the return of most of the veteran and their inner circle of friends.

Even if you win fiefs by voting you still need to make the armies to defend it afterward.
What I mean is that the "grind" would still be there (the grind to survive), fiefs are just an incentive for people to get back in.
I remember that fiefs voting over-extension was a thing even when cRPG was mostly alive, so if people vote en masse and dont play the game (or just plain suck) they will just die away.

Without fiefs voting, I think it will be much harder to get your old pals to come back to fight AI fiefs battles a couple dozen times. 3 years ago it was already such a pain in the ass, today it would be completely surreal. Compare that to telling them day 1 that you have 2-3 fiefs to manage, you need lords and traders to do shit? Those people will of course fight the battles to keep what is theirs and even expand.

Not to add that fief voting is not just a 0;1 thing, you can modify how exactly the voting will work (minimum number of votes needed to acquire a village, a castle, a city; max number of votes per fiefs (prevent waste stacking)); voting transparency to see where you can grab unvoted lands; etc...).

On the flipside image telling Hetman or anyone else from a large faction that isn't really active right now "Strat's just been reset, you have no fiefs, everyone else has fiefs including all the castles and cities". There's just no way they'd come back.

Yeah, I hope that if fief voting is enacted people will be informed weeks beforehand. Otherwise I imagine that some will never come back due to that flipside.

What would prevent a couple of factions banding together to outvote smaller unorganized factions, thus grabbing large parts of the map which they could split between themselves.

Would heavily depend on how the voting mechanics works, one which curbs mega factions?

AI fief mechanics are fine IMO. Sure it takes a while to get on your feet, but it's all part of the game to be honest, we aren't trying to have a PvP server for Strategus imo. If it's actually too hard, I think it can be tuned down a bit without losing the AI mechanic.

Leave it as it is.
Maybe balance the xp factor for low gear battles a little, so these "peasant wars" at the beginning are actually worth it.
I think that part is the most interesting in all strategus. As soon as factions sit in castles the game becomes more boring every day.
I mean sure those 2k v 2k tincan battles give alot of xp and are fun aswell, but look at EU1 and you will see people enjoy playing all kinds of different gear.

I voted to keep AI battles. Was a lot of fun at the start of strat signing up to defend AI fiefs. Some of my favorite battles.

I voted for keeping AI battles as well. I don't think fief voting will help anyone other than big factions or new factions which cling to the remnants of big factions.

I voted for AI battles, but only cuz it seems a little less worse than voting.

But how about random draws?  Every active strat player puts his name in and in some random order each player picks their fief... or maybe 2 fiefs, or possible 3, depending on the amount of players per fief.

Then we all get our fiefs, and people could trade or attack swiftly those players who are dragging their asses.  And we don't have to fight AI and the random rosters that go with it.
