It involves drums and bass, that's for sure. First part sounds like some electro jazz whatever is called thing, then it comes some dubstep variation. Typical drum and bass is 90s music, this sounds nothing like it. It's very modern, very 'farty'. I mean, it has that kind of sound you can make when mimicking farting sounds. It's not trying to be simple or reduced in any way. On the contrary, author tried to make it sound rich but it is far too simple for what is trying to achieve. Kafein (rest in piece my muslim friend) posted some good piece that is incredibly rich and interesting, also some fusion of various genres.
tldr verse is weak, rest is good
you can easily make something like this in fruity loops with a little bit of musical sense, don't need any expensive gear
edit: genre is called neurofunk it seems. they really should stop making up subgenres of music, it is worse than gender studies.
