standards. We've got a few acres to let the things run around...they seem to like it in the woods a lot. Goddamn forest chickens!
Same here. Currently just 2 acres and penned in over night, but before they had almost unlimited space (neighbor had 100+ ha of forest/meadows/wild shrubs) and went on looooong chicken adventures. They are forest birds originally, and they did not forget that. For a long time ours did not even have a coop/stable, they preferred to sleep on a lemon tree....
Interesting that even so many centuries of abuse, degeneration and strange breeding goals have not wiped out what they know... they even hunt, little snakes, frogs, and whatnot... make their nests somewhere in the wild (or 2 m from my door, like the black hen in the vid)... pretty self-organized and independent. But they like to be around humans, not just for the food. Funny, after all that we have done to them...
