Do I change case or GPU?

As much as I wish I could keep the black and red going I think I'm going to switch to the EVGA full size 970.

Been reading up on some overheating issues with the mITX versions and the EVGA is very slightly behind the MSI in OCing but otherwise is basically the same. Just 3cm shorter.

Wait, isn't the GTX970 the card with the bullshit memory pipeline where 500MB are actually only half as fast as the other 3.5GB and Nvidia gets sued over in the States?
Nvidia claims it's a feature (which isn't mentioned anywhere).

I'd google that and maybe rethink the card tbh. Might remember it wrong tho...

No you're correct but it's still considered one of the best cards around even with that.

Yes, and it's not half as fast it's more like 1/7 of bandwidth compered to the rest of its memory  I gues they will fix it by drivers if they didn't already and just disable acces to that unfortunate part of memory, so it's just 3,5 GB. Still great GPU

get a hammer and smack a 4mm dent into the case.
It's just a case. it is nothing but a platearmour for your hardware.
It will do it's job with a dent as good as a new one will.

That case will still be an issue if you upgrade in future, so I'd just get a new case personally.

The actual card could be worth sending back too though with all the bad press it had lately. If I were getting a new rig I'd shell out a bit more and get the 980 or save a bit and get the 960 if thats fast enough. The 970 will probably have bad resale value because of all the controversy, and it might not be as future proof as it seems. Just do a google search and you'll see issues with the card if it tries to use over 3.5gb. Basically the last half a gig is slow and causes stuttering, but the card prefers to only use 3.5gig, so in effect it is a 3.5gig card. Which is plenty it seems, and nothing is faster in that price range. AMD uses lots more power and causes more heat for other components. I have the 970 and its a good card, just don't know how it will fare in future, and it will lose its resale value compared to other cards

You should always check compatability of GPU and motherboard before you buy the parts I'd say get a new GPU? Go sell the current GPU to a friend maybe.

I did check compatibility and nothing said it wasn't compatible as cases only tend to take length into consideration rather than width which is why I missed it.

As for the resale I'll probably be keeping ahold of it for the next 4-5 years so it will be pretty low value by then anyway so I'm not too concerned.

I do see what you mean about the case being problematic in the future. Thing is it's only been two cards I've seen that have the issue with the height clearance which is the MSI I got and the Asus Strix one so it shouldn't be too bad. Again probably won't upgrade for a good few years so that's something to sort out another time. Besides mITX and mATX cards are becoming more common so it might be a lesser problem then.

Get a full size case. Any graphics card you buy in the future is going to have the same issue fitting into the case. High end graphics cards are gigantic and that isn't likely to change any time soon.

If you don't plan on OCing and you don't lose anything in the switch ($$), go EVGA or w/e fits.
Easier than taking a computer apart for a new case tbh.

Longterm though, a new case would be better.

Or, if you hate yourself, you can replace the cooling on the GPU with an AIO cooler.
(The temps are nice, but the weekend I lost making it work isn't)

Yeah I was taking the piss about the Alienware.

Other than the card it's perfect. Runs well, quiet and it's little, exactly what I was aiming for.

I exchanged the MSI for the EVGA on Amazon, the EVGA arrived the following day and I'm £10 up as it was a slightly cheaper card. No complaints.

Make sure to register the card with EVGA ASAP.

They have a weird warranty system.
