I have been attacked and the battle takes place firmly during my sleep time (aka when I'm at work) how is this possible?

You didn't set your sleep times correctly.

You have to set it on the c-rpg.net site, click on "settings" at the top, then on the left click on "regional" set your time zone, and then under that click on strategus and set your sleep time.
