This is probably only working well for me and my (special) brain, so take it with a grain of salt
As most of you don't know, I wear glasses. Nothing uncommon. My eyes are different, nothing uncommon there as well. But difference is quite big... which means I have hard time gauging distance, in real life or this game.
While playing in 3rd person mode with standard (for me) 85 degree FOV, I often make bad judgment of distance between enemy players and myself.
But for some reason,
1st person view with maximum FOV (100 degrees) works best for me. It has fish eye deformation which can be a bit strange for the brain (I suggest you switch back to 3rd person every five minutes for ten seconds to avoid confusion). But it also make the
game feels much quicker, more responsive, like you are on drugs when playing cRPG. Not to mention how easier is to aim with stabby weapons (if you draw a dot on your monitor it's like playing darn FPS). Now I glance less, can stab more times (can't knit like some others, but I can stab a lot more per minute), can even block better people who are in front of me.
Downsides are typical for 1st person view, you can't see people or (most importantly) horses coming from behind. But wider FOV helps with that to certain degree. You also will teamhit a bit more until you get used to it. But it has serious advantages for me and I plan to keep playing like this and maybe completely replace 3rd person view.
Edit: I know speed-up is just an optical illusion, but I'm quite satisfied with it.
