I know some of you are playing Path of Exile , Diablo III and Torchlight 2 .
They are no doubt (except DIII that was mutated in an auction house game) good games but anything could be compared to the old Diablo 2 Lod even with dated graphics.
If you got bored of  D2 and want to replay it with shitload of changes , items , quests , runes and much more , i show you this awesome mod : Median XL.
At start could be disorienting but if you read offline document and lurk forums for beginner guides and build , you could be amazed by this rework.

WHAT IS MEDIAN XL?

Overview

Median XL is the most popular mod, or unofficial modification, for Diablo II Lord of Destruction. It modifies the game by replacing character skills, improving items and monsters, and adding new uberquests.

So is this a cheat?


Mods are not cheats. A cheat makes the game easier. Median XL turns it into an entirely new game...


Features

o New skill trees with 30 brand new skills per class.
Bored with Blessed Hammer? Median XL offers brand new skill trees. Each class has 25 main skills, 3 uberskills and 2 challenge reward skills. If you ever wanted a crossbow necromancer or summoner amazon, here is your chance!

o Improved monsters.

When was the last time a frog killed you? The monsters are much more aggressive and dangerous, and many have learned various new tricks. From quill rats with homing spikes to invisible templars, the monsters will pose a much tougher challenge.

o Elite and heroic monsters.
If the normal monsters are tricky, the elites will have you run for your life. Featuring their own unique attacks and improved statistics, elite and heroic monsters are a match for the strongest heroes.

o 30 new uberquests for high level characters.
Forget Battle.net and 'Uber Tristram', Median XL has 22 more uberbosses and 8 special uberlevels for high level characters. Defeating them on the highest difficulty yields powerful unique charms.

o New base items. Six quality tiers.
Median XL features many new class-specific items. Additionally, item stats have been rebalanced and there are now six tiers of item quality, each with better stats than the last. Rumours persist of even stronger Sacred items...

o New and improved gems and runes.
More gems, more runes and the existing gems and runes have been improved. Plentiful random sockets on items offer a powerful way to customise your items.

o Enhanced magic and rare items.
Between the improved affix pool and the addition of powerful new affixes including percentage based attribute bonuses, rares are a much improved game option.

o An assortment of new uniques and sets.
Median XL features 475 new uniques and 28 new sets. Many of the uniques and all of the sets can only drop in special difficult areas.

o An assortment of new runewords.
There are exactly 310 brand new runewords, each requiring only a single rune. You can fill the other sockets with jewels for your convenience.

o New and improved cube recipes.
Median XL offers many powerful new cube recipes including a revolutionary crafting system.

o Honorific items.
Create blank items and enchant them yourself. Ever wanted to make your very own uniques? Now you can.

o Special challenges for expert players.
Beating the game is only half the fun! Reach certain milestones in the game to obtain a special reward.

o Rebalanced drop rates to make good items more common.
You may actually see a Zod now.

DIFFICULTY LEVELS
IN MEDIAN XL


Just like regular Diablo II Lord of Destruction, Median XL features three difficulty levels. Killing Baal unlocks the next difficulty level for that character.

Hatred
Level range (regular game) : 1-55
Level range (uberquests) : 60-95

The first and easiest difficulty level. Regular monsters range from 50 to 10K health and deal 1 to 200 damage. Their AI is not very bright and leech works at 1/4 effectiveness, which should be just fine considering the increased amount of damage characters can deal compared to the regular game.

Terror
Level range (regular game) : 55-115
Level range (uberquests) : 115

A significant step up in difficulty, regular monsters range from 10K to 100K health and deal 250 to 750 damage. Leech is reduced to 1/25 effectiveness. If you can beat Terror, you have completed the regular game. You can expect to hit the level cap of 120 in Terror difficulty.

Destruction
Level range (regular game) : 120
Level range (uberquests) : 120



After reaching the level cap, Inferno awaits. Every monster is level 120 and is extremely aggressive. Regular monsters range from 100K to 300K health and deal 500 to 1000 damage, but uberquest monsters go far beyond that. Abandon all hope. Leech is reduced to 1/200 to make up for high attack damage at this point in the game.

Sacred uniques and sets drop only in Destruction difficulty.

Differences about these 2 versions ---> Median XL Ultimative has:250 new uniques, 7 new runes, 51 new runewords.
                                                                                               Over 10 new uberquests.
                                                                                               Gameplay tweaks (exp. inventory, mass disenchant, lowered charm sizes, mercs with full gear etc..     
                                                                                               Visual changes (skills, town maps, etc.)
                                                                                               Balance Tweaks (skills)


Median Xl could be played via Tcp/ip with 1.13 version and without any other third party software installed (PlugY , high res mod etc..)

Uugghhh, I miss moddable Diablo 3. :cry:  Too bad they went DRM cause of the silly internet marketplacethingy that hardly raised any game value and many didnt give a  single favk about. DRM turned modding illegal. Mods were the main attraction of Diablo 2. Point: Blizzard is run by idiots.

yep , he's doing uniques for PoE .
Brother Laz is a genius in fact of item originality and balancing , i'm not surprised he's working on it.
Too bad Median xl lost his creator but MarcoNecrox is doing a good job trying to updating the mod.

► New Uberquest: The Void (Act 3 Upper Kurast). Have fun understanding it !


► Bugfixes
- Fixed Cycles of Wisdom only giving +ama skills, and cycles of power only giving strength.
- Golden Cycle: fixed size.
- Quest Items: can no longer be disenchanted.
- Triune: entrance portal no longer blinks, and shows uberquest warning as well.
- Character Orb: fixed, and clarified warning for the dummy people.
- Stormflyer: can now actually drop, reduced level requirement accordingly.
- Cows are no longer darkred.
- Fixed a few unique items not having color.
- Startled Witch: fixed map.
- Lord Primus: halved health to prevent overflow, added avoid to compensate.
- Scorpion Blade: proc version shoots correct amount of knives.
- Lionheart: fixed duration on the proc version.
- Fixed Grubber reanimate string.


► Uberquests/Monsters/Maps
- MarcoNecroX (Secret) Boss: slightly hardened.
- Triune: Primus' Messenger no longer flies. Archons are now immune to lightning and Sprites to poison.
- Secret Cow Level: removed Gift of the Wild cast (way too laggy), replaced with pounce.
- Prince Albrecht: now drops 4 character orbs, for easier multiplaying.
- Destroyer Shamans: now use firebolts.
- Diablo: improved AI.
- Diablo Clone: hopefully fixed. Can again be aimed by homing skills. Removed toy box.
- Griswold: buffed in terror/destruction.
- Worldstone Keep: slightly increased size.


► Level Challenge 0
- No longer cheesable.
- Traps no longer make random mobs immune.
- Volrath: lowered level so that wdm characters don't struggle as much.
- Volrath no longer drops an apple
- Recipe now uses a gem instead of apple
- Removed splash damage that caused you to die thanks to your summons
- Improved summoning animations
- Summoning skill only works at level 5, so you can stop killing hardcore characters.

► Amazon
- Ghost Arrow: removed.
- New Skill: Sun Strike - deadly piercing arrow leaving a powerful fire trail behind.
- Bacchanalia: doubled %health bonus.
- Curare: doubled damage per second, halved duration and decreased duration per level.


► Assassin
- Batstrike: amount of bats now depend on the amount of hard points into the skill.
- Twin Fang Strike: slightly increased AoE.
- Starbrust: increased magic damage. Now uses cast animation. Renamed to Shuriken Flurry.
- Maelstorm mkIV: overhauled and improved.
- Summon Dark Spirit: removed.
- New Skill: Tiefling Form - morph into a powerful ninja, greatly improving your spellcaster skills.
- Electrofield Sentry: improved mechanics.
- Phase Bomb: is now aim-able.


► Barbarian
- Nephalem Weapons: increased damage. Reduced duration.
- Thunderslam: slightly increased AoE, now hits everytime.
- Overkill: increased damage from 3/5 to 4/5.


► Druid
- Decreased base run/walk speed.
- Hunting Banshee: now collides with walls QQ. QQ. QQ. Reduced lag.
- Laughing Ghost: slightly increased AoE, decreased ND from  4 to 1.
- Faerie Fire: decreased ND from 5 to 2.
- Elemental: reduced lag.
- Idol of Scosglen: reduced lag, improved animation.
- Trap Rat Form: slightly increased attack/walk animations.


► Necromancer
- Slightly increased base run/walk speed.
- Fireheart Totem: reverted to the old firespam version.
- Stormeye Totem: increased damage.
- Angel of Death: increased damage.
- Famine: increased lifesteal per level from 1% to 2%.
- Veil King: changed poison immunity to physical.
- Bend the Shadows: vulnerability duration is now static, adds %MF per hard point.
- Deathlord Form: increased strength/dexterity bonuses, improved attack speed.


► Paladin
Overhauled the entire holy melee tree - concept by BrotherLaz!
- New Skill: Dragon Oath - cast a devastating nova that morphs you into a powerful Dragonknight
- New Skill: Dragonshout - cast a single stunning/knockbacking missile (human) cast a wave of force
- New Skill: Burnout - cast a ricocheting fire stream that leaves a wall of fire in its wake
- New Skill: Demonrend - summon a demonic mage to protect you (human) summon a mage trio to pulverize enemies (dragon)
- New Skill: Deva King - passive - become the Deva King, improving your melee combat abilities
- Blazing Fury: removed.
- Winterstorm: removed.
- Rapture: changed trail overlay.


► Sorceress
- Lorenado: reverted animation to shoot books again. Oops...
- Bladestorm: starting conversion reduced to 80%, lowered base mana cost and increased mana cost per level.
- Familiar: doubled aura range.


► Oskills
- Searing Glow: increased dazzle duration, removed resonance bonus.
- Soulshatter: reverted to 1.Z9 state, stun length reduced.
- Trinity Nova: added spell timer.
- Hades Gate: greatly reduced lag.
- Dire Charm: is now useable while morphed.
- Ring of Light: now exists again, removed resonance, increased damage, reverted flames to white.


► Items
- New item: Special Box, terror version of the Gift Box.
- Gift Box: is now more randomized (still character specific!). No longer requires a town portal.
- Adrenaline Potions: removed.
- Cycles of Strength: nerfed.
- Kabraxis' Stone: no longer unsocketable.
- Oils of Duplication: no longer sold by vendors.
- Oil of Jewelcraft: renamed to Oil of Craft
- New rare affix: +(11-19) to Rising Dawn (necro/druid staff, paladin maces/clubs)
- New rare affix: +(16-24) to Brimstone (circlets, paladin helms, scepters)
- New rare affix: +(9-15) to Ring of Light (staves, wands & paladin shields)
- Updated CotWs with new paladin skills: Dragonshout, Burnout, Dragon Oath and Demonrend.
- Elemental Runes: now change the item's color.
- Magic/Rare items: can now be colored (like in cLoD)
- Apples: reverted to their old cMXL state.
