These 3 things are the easiest:
-Target lightly armored melee/ranged
-Carry a blunt/pierce weapon or blunt/pierce weapon + sword (wpf offsets weapon repairs)
-Move around quickly in melee and help provide supporting hits on even heavier infantry. Easiest to help a teammate who is doing a 1v1 or a 2v1 where 2 teammates are struggling.
You could get a good KD from killing those lightly armored targets and good score from helping teammates with tankier foes. If you knock someone down, try to get in a running held hit. If you get a kick afterwards, hold the swing for a moment before hitting.
Up-front line fighting is the hardest from my experience, since you'll just have heavily armored enemies backpedaling with really long overheads and stabs. You could also fight on the side. 1on1 with a cut weapon is still decent, just expect anywhere from 2-5 good hits depending on how you hold and move. It's much easier to stay back, choose a target you could help a teammate with, get a hit or two in (if there are enemies next to him), then back off.
I also recommend wearing a bit of armor and decent gloves. I tried really light armor and it's nice, but you can't easily mitigate damage from causing your foe to hit very early/late in the swing. Armor weights around 6-12 still allow you to move fast with decent durability. Try to find a sweetspot where you die in 3 hits more often than 2.
