Good complementing 1h & shield for Bar Mace

Right now, I'm training a bloke of mine to use a Bar Mace plus a 1h and Shield.

What should the 1h and Shield be? I think a buckler plus a quick shortsword might complement it well.

Right now I'm going full Studded Warclub, similar (and inferior) to the Bar Mace.
I have also considered using a Morningstar, but the 82 length thing is kind of a turnoff.
Honestly the build I'm going for is very fun. I have dubbed it the "Shitbasher." I think one with Mauls should be more like a "Bullshitbasher".

Any quick 1hander would be fine. Using a shortsword might be a tad painful with the bar mace weighing him down, so I believe something with at least a decent length + good speed. Since he'll use it on lightly armored foes, he'll need something fast that can reach them.

Nope, anything goes, as long as it is above 95 speed.
