compared to long espada (in reference to spathion), its shit.

*gets long espada*

+2 long espada with 100 speed and i still feel like i swing a lead pipe.

*sigh*

Long espada has pretty average/decent speed. It won't be much faster than many of the other 1hs out there. When I think of 1h speeds, it's easier for me to think of how unwieldy it is, such as how well it feints or how immediate a response I get from releasing the weapon. Long 1hs also appear slower even though they're not (enemies have to be more to the side to hit early sweetspots) and the overheads bounce everywhere. 140 wpf still isn't all too much for a pure build. You might want to get a bit more if you still feel slow.

Long Espada is definitely a very fast weapon, even withing the 1h group. More important than speed rating and wpf is your ability to make the weapon fast. Proper turning into your swings and timing can make you seem a lot faster. In my swashbuckling I would get regular complaints that I was so fast when using a 98 speed NCS and having only 130 wpf. I don't really bother with WM much in my 1h builds, as you are still quite fast if you do it right.

i am just at utter disbelief how unwieldy this sword is on +2. it just doesnt feel like 100 speed. that is not right.

does armor has any impact on how fast you swing your weapon? maybe heraldic chain mail is just too heavy to swing this properly...

The longer your weapon is, the larger a penalty you suffer to your movement speed. The long espada is quite long, so the lost movement speed may make your weapon feel slower than it is.

e: Check out WaltF4's post on the subject for more information.

100+ length 1h swords have a cumbersome nature that seems to defy stats. They are just clumsy. As soon as you drop down to the shorter tier of swords (Nordic War, Side Sword, Arming Sword, Italian, etc), they seem fast again. It may be all psychological, but the <100 length swords just seem more effective.
