Have been playing Kerbal Space Program since Monday, and it seems to be fun so far. If you like Dwarf Fortress and Minecraft, the nerdiness of KSP should not intimidate you.
So far i am very satisfied, but since it lacks any sort of progression, i might get bored quickly. Basically you set your own goals, build a spaceship, a shuttle, a station, or a vehicle from a wide range of parts, and try to come back on Kerbin/Homeworld in one piece
There are many, many mods available, and the game's community seems to be very active.
It is certainly a different kind of game, unique in many ways. The engineering part is where it truly shines, in my opinion
Simple, yet unrestricted in many ways. I will try to build a giant rocket propelled pterodactyl replica later this week, and land on the Mün. But i need to master shuttle construction, and it seems to be more complex, compared to a simple rocket-type spacecrafts.
Anyway, Kerbal Space Program might be something to consider.
