Didn't they call their software for small notebooks (10" tft) already Ubuntu Edge?

Now it's a phone? I am confused... and 32.000.000? I would be surprised if they get this through...
When west germany annexed east germany, nobody moved a finger too.

This gadget deserves some credit for it's technological achievement, but personally, i see as little use for it as any other smartphone out there... Seems to be one of them "new inventions" that are forced on general public as something they need, even though noone really needs them :( I want my phone to make calls. May be send an SMS from time to time. Nothing else really. Just as i don't want my microwave, refrigerator or toilet to have an internet connection.

It's fine if you want to buy something new, cause you want a new toy to play with. Nothing wrong with that. I use most of my money on video games, and related products. What slightly annoys me, is that everyone who owns a smartphone ( about 100% of everyone i know ), claim they need it for something useful. My wife is pretty reasonable person most of the time, but she claims her iPhone is a work-tool for her  :| Yeah... Right... Playing this stupid run-away-from-a-giant-gorilla-monkey game while sitting on the toilet. That's what she is using it for, besides making calls.

Check out my phone:

Had it for about 7 years now. Works perfectly, 80 g, tiny in size, still holds 4-5 days without recharging.

It's not really meant for you. It's meant for those manager types that think they always have to have access to their computer so they can act busy everywhere. It's business after all, you know! Must stay busy.

Don't think of it as phone, think of it as a computer you can carry in your pocket that can also make phone calls.
And that's pretty awesome. Give it 10 years and every hotel and McDonalds will have screens and keyboards you can plug in to.
So when your wife forces you to go on a vacation you can play cRpg while she's at the pool. No heavy lifting or hours of downloading your stuff from Evil Inc. cloud and reconfiguring it. And if you are unemployed, just think about all the rich kids leaving their 1000$ toy lying around somewhere at a party while they go look for a room with someone of the other/same sex. Yoink!

Yeah, that porn won't watch itself, you know!

Don't think of it as phone, think of it as a computer you can carry in your pocket that can also make phone calls.

I could make a call from my Compaq laptop in 1998. Never did, cause it was like a bazillion moneys for a minute of conversation, but it was possible. They also had them Palm computers back in the days, even Nokia made some uglyass phones with keyboards. I am failing to see anything new here...

And that's pretty awesome. Give it 10 years and every hotel and McDonalds will have screens and keyboards you can plug in to.

Why is smaller phone screen not enough to update your facebook status?.. No need for a screen even, i can drop an idea here: make a cap/hat with a tiny projector on it, so you can make your own screen on any wall. Look how engaged that dude's face is:

And then he turns to the camera and goes something like - "Look how easy it is to manage your Outlook Express and do a professional 3d Powerpoint presentation!" And all he is thinking is "Damn, i wish they would stop taking pictures of me, so i can watch 2girls1cup in this awesome 3d holographic projection virtual reality! Now i won't miss a drop!"

A smartphone is basically internet everywhere and a GPS and a phone. And that's pretty useful, especially for people that travel a lot.
