Kind of off-topic regarding op, but have you tried Commander Mode? If not, and since you're finding the gameplay a little stale, it could provide some good fun. From what I remember though, there might be a couple of maps here and there that are an urban type setting where you can find amongst buildings in a town or whatever, both in battle and commander modes. For the most part though it's more field battles.
