Rice Eaters: faction emergence
At the mouth of the old Rhodok empire, stands a castle, overlooking the bay of the Bezan sea.
The castle of Jamiche.
Neglected by the lord of this place, the garrison includes only several hundred soldiers, soldiers recently repelled by the rebelling peasants of Jamiche.
A thousand civilians labour the fields around the fief and work inside the castle itself.
The morale is low, the treasury is running out.
It is at this time that an apparently under-equipped and under-manned party of three hundred lightly armed men suddenly appears in the neighbouring forest at the north.

They promptly began to build ladders out of the surrounding trees, just out of reach of the garrison's archers.
Seeing the siege preparations, the defenders began to worry.
"Are they mad, to try to take such a castle with so few soldiers?"
Doubts surrounded their minds, as certainly as the bannerless mercenaries surrounded the castle walls.
As dawn approached, you could hear the bellowing of a horn...

The mercenaries did not came as lightly armed as they seemed to!
The professional army quickly overwhelmed the poorly equipped soldiers, who lost control of all sections of the walls in mere hours!
Inside the keep, the remaining survivors were screaming through the small gate: "We surrender! We surrender!"
They were quickly arrested and those not willing to join the new lord of this castle were thrown in the dungeon.
The ever-fickle population was eager to try their luck with the new master of the fief and no further violence was required...
Two days passed without troubles, the mercenaries appeared to be waiting for something to happen.
They seemed merely content at keeping the fief unharmed and peaceful...
At the third day, around midday, people were noticing a great moving line of men in the horizon.
The mercenaries saw them too, but did not seem to be worried about it.
What new peril await the recently conquered population of the castle of Jamiche ?
As the end of the day approached, the great party stopped by the gate...

He invited the leader of the incoming party into the keep.
During two hours, they bartered in the throne room, very loudly, while soldiers of both parties guarded the inner keep door.
When they opened the door again and walked out in the court, it was with many good words and gestures.
Noticeable in front of the castle gate was a cart full of war chest and weapons of war.
After all these events, the keys to the castle gates are in the hand of a man named Butan; he looks happily while the mercenary leader and his cohort leave the castle with the spoils.
