Voting Rights Act’s Section 5

If you're an American, I urge you to write to your congressman about this if you feel strongly about it. Even though they've got no involvement in this decision, your opinions should be made known. As someone who has spent time in Alabama and lived in states covered by this act, I strongly believe that it's something that's still needed in specific areas. Whatever you believe, though, it's something that I firmly think you should pester Congress about.

Game over man, game over! But seriously since we're talking about politics Obama is gonna make the US go belly up real soon. I say in a matter of years, sadly.

The voting rights act has the correct idea in mind but it goes too far. There are some provisions that simply ARE unconstitutional. And yes, I have read the US constitution...unlike many Americans.

The reason it has stayed so far is simply because.....it is a good bill. However I do think some provisions could use some rework with the social context in mind, of course.

Just my 2 cents.

edit: especially the district voting provisions. These cause gerrymandering, plain and simple.  I don't care if it "helps" minorities. Unfairly supporting anyone, especially in politics, in a no-no. Keep it to liberal womyn's studies degrees please.
