Attacking with a shield

I've noticed that while attacking with a shield, it gives some bad results.

With a sword, I can release my left mouse button and then watch my avatar as he runs around holding that left swing for another second or two.

With throwing spears, the throw will cancel itself as if I RMB clicked.

The only way to prevent this is to hold your left attack down for longer than you should to make CERTAIN that your release doesn't just hold indefinitely or cancel your throw.

No shield? I don't get this issue.

had that before too, but i thought either it was lag, or not enough wpf or too slow weapon.

can you reproduce that with any type of 1h compared with shield? is it also happening with different shields?(very slow and heavy shield?)

I'll switch things up to see. I use an Elite Scimi and Elite Cavalry with speed ratings of 99 and 100.

You thinking maybe with slower weapons and shields it won't happen (or so much)?

I had this too - the stuck left swing.

I figured it to be somehow connected to lag too. Dunno for sure, stopped happening after some time.

quite the opposite i suspected, in a combination of high agi, medium to high wpf, fast shield fast 1h.
It seemed to me, that the animation somehow would be broken, getting stuck and the release sequence wouldn't be resolved correctly.
The only thing i saw what then worked still quite well is to hold the attack open even longer and then release it very controlled, which but often leads to death as
when you fight against 2 or more and one of those outreaches you, he may just spam you to death in that still short time period, that but also may have to do with the turn nerf.

Testing this out could be a quite time consuming thing, you would need several alts, different agility and wpf settings, different weapons and shields to be used.
Keeping track if you are turning when releasing and how long you would hold the attack before release.

I've had this happen a few times, over 5 months ago, I'd wager. It's the sort of thing that happens very infrequently (over the course of my entire cRPG experience I've probably had it happen less than five times) the weapon animation getting "stuck" in an attack position, or your shield being "stuck" in a block position, both disallowing their opposite action for the duration of the stickyness.

I'm tempted to say that this is a mouse/interface issue, honestly, due to how nearly impossible it is to actually replicate it on cue.

damn you for giving a new posibbility   :| , but yes now where you mention it, i do have some mouse issues too since a few months. But then i get the Windows mouse pointer normally and loose ingame focus till i would click again, but that is different to the experienced stickyness in the attack animation at least from what i can tell sofar.

Ive had this happening my whole play time of crpg, and not only with 1h/shield but with all melee, my weapon just gets stuck and cant do anything with it (w/o shield it can get stuck after swing or when ive raised block even tho enemy hasnt hit the block yet it can get stuck there holding block for couple secs), but i can move my charactar just normally, it takes 1-3 secs and then its back to normal, and its been the same with all 3 computers ive had in the time and 3 mouses ive used. It doesnt happen that often, mayby once or twice a week, depends how much im playing ofc.

Do you tend to hold your attacks/blocks for longer than 1 second? I do. I also noticed on my archer that if I hold a shot for too long, when I let go of the mouse, it takes about 1/2 a second before my archer will release. VERY annoying when doing close shots against melee and you miss because the bow didn't shoot on time.
