as i said in-game: NO, you want to retire your main over and over again so you also get the xp bonus. And you want that xp bonus because you will level waaaay faster. when you are higher generation, you will be able to level up to lvl 31 in no time, while without it, it will go as slow as before.
This is true if you aim to continue retiring. If you just want to level your main up as high as you can go, it's actually less overall time spent (with the millions of experience for each gen, even considering the gen bonus, assuming average multi, minimal strat participation and no surprise double xp bonus days) leveling up at gen 1 to get to higher levels.
The other guy, who said the xp bonus wasnt important claimed that he was higher lvl because he hadnt retired that much, wich means he also needed a shitload of time to level to lvl 33 (wich he said he was), he also claimed that he was way better because of those few levels, while looms are even more important.
Getting to levels higher than 32 is going to be a huge time investment regardless of your gen bonus. Getting your generations up from scratch will take more time than simply going high level from scratch, and you spend more time on average at lower levels in the process. The upshot is that you'll get heirloom points for doing it.
Whether you consider heirlooms more important than playing the game at a higher level on average is a matter of preference (I feel that character stats make a bigger difference than the bonuses to equipment stats heirlooms give you, particularly if you want to hybridize your build). If you gen up a few times and then decide to continue to the higher levels, it will seem less drawn out to level higher because of the gen bonus, from that point on.
This guy that claimed to know everything couldnt even make a lvl 33 build that was able to properly use a great maul (a archer with a 1h could block him without even getting a stun). He claimed to be pro, but in fact he was asking a archer to learn him how to chamber (a maul!!).
