Sorry to necro the thread, but is there a penalty for going over 1000 or 2000 troops that negates speed bonus? With under 1000 I was able to get the maximum bonus with more horses than crates, but currently I have 2000 troops with no crates and around 6000 horses, yet I'm moving at 24 meters a minute.

24 is still very fast, but yes, the more troops the slower you go after a certain point.  That's a mechanic in Warband SP.

The horse bonus multiplier remains the same BUT each troops have a virtual weight that decreases the base speed you have. So even with 1 horse per goods/troops (whichever is higher) you will be slower at 10000 troops than at 9000, than at 8000, etc... down to only 1 troop and 1 horse where you will go as fast as possible INGAME.
