Stopped reading there. Flanged Mace is an epic weapon and a great one-hander. Also, military pick loses 1 speed and 2 damage, but has the length advantage over the steel pick.

Problem about cRPG is :
It has items of 9th Century-15th Century

And since you can kill a guy in milanese plate armor (15th century knight) with 9th century frankish sword or voulge in cRPG , shit happens.

In 15th century knights were using picks to pierce armor and penetrate flesh directly or hammers,poleaxes,mauls to daze and knockback the enemy knight because with swords you couldn't do anything against them.
In cRPG you can kill a guy in plate armor very easily with a wooden staff...

Arrows from horn bow penetrates armor , there are people in mamluke mail who use huscarl shield and katana etc...

Somethings are sadly inevitable my friend.
There is no way to perfectly balance this mod .
Playerbase in this mod likes to be viking or saracen or templar in jerusalem or samurai in kyoto or longbowmen in agincourt or horsearcher in steppes or a wealthy and famous knight and some people wants to be them all at the same.

Now , since i introduced the main problem i'll connect this issue with this topic's case.
Late period armors are not protecting player from early period weapons as intended.
Late period armors are expensive and thier high upkeep makes it very hard to use continously
Late period armors are very heavy which turns you into useless shining target which moves very slow and deal far less damage because of wpf penalty.
Of course they add to your survivability very much but not as much as it should .
Therefore most of the people don't use them.

Now the catchy part,
Late period weapons are op.
They are meant to kill the guy who wears that period's armor.
They deal very high damage no matter what you wear
They are fast
They are masterpieces of steel weapon era which is the last melee weapon era in history.
They are expensive and it is hard to play with them continiously because of their upkeep but because of their advantages people use those weapons.

Since it is a competetive multiplayer game , people simply abuse the foul spots of this mod.
For example i am wearing mamluke mail carrying huscarl's shield and using steel pick.
Because mamluke mail gives me sufficient protection , huscarl shield reacts same to 15th century weapons as it reacts to simple viking weapons, steel pick kills anyone easily
This is how we all fuck this game up.


Nerfing late period weapons would be idiotic because they work as intended
Buffing late period armor is a must to solve this problem.
But if devs buff late period armor it will render %90 of the current armors useless and this will make %90 of the playerbase unhappy.


TL;DR: There is no way to solve this issue, if you want to play with useless gear to satisfy your RP will go for it but don't expect much.

That's all true, and not gonna change, which is fine... This isn't super historical simulation, it's a multiplayer action game with historical aesthetics for RP purposes, cuz a lot of people love this period, and can be 9th century viking or 15th century lombard knight, whatever they want basically from Iceland to Kyoto, but all balanced so none is gimped for their choice.

OP doesn't seem to get that there are actually a huge variety of weapon that ARE useful. Maybe he's just new?

Go to 1h section, start at Nordic short War Sword and all the weapons after, and 90% of those 35 1h are good weapons. Most of those weapons have a unique aspect to them and will have someone who will swear how good it is, and be kicking ass with an heirloomed version of it. The 28 below that cutoff are just kind of obvious "peasant" items for RP purposes. Pretty sure the 2h and Polearm sections have a similar ratio.

pole-arm is strange.

The early weapons quarter staff\fauchard are really specific counters not so good for general battle. The mid tier ones spears/hafted maces/axes are more general good in group fights and 1 on 1. The poleaxes and glaives dish out huge damage at good reach but are slow so 1 on 1 they are a bit gimp(not really).

So for me the majority of pole-arms have their place on the battle field not many are left out completely.
