Tips for using "unbalanced" weapons!

Anyone got any useful tips for using them? Used them a few times before, not so great with them. Really want to use some unbalanced polearms though.

Also, I know this should go in Beginner's help section or whatever, but I figured I'd get more responses here and maybe some of the better users of such weapons would see this. (looking at you Rhaelys and Lumetta!)

Get used to feinting with them, feinting causes some strange fast moves at unbalanced weaps sometimes,
often helps to break blocks.

Keep distance between you and your opponent to prevent getting caught after doin overheads or into swings
(speaking about the poles)

Feinting is bad, especially with unbalanced polearms. It's a little better with unbalanced 2Hs, though. Only do it occasionally, and not every attack like balanced 2Hs or 1Hs can.

Holds are much better. The polearm attack animation is slow during the readying/chamber phase, but surprisingly fast during the swing phase.

Never apologize if you try to cancel a swing but can't because it's already underway.

Abandon the mindset that you can swing your weapon around with fluidity and grace. You're using a weapon that is meant to cleave or bash skulls.

I will be quick.

Avoid getting caught up in really close range duels. You will probablt have high reach and damage use it.

Secondly keep your enemies at the tip of your weapon. and keep the weapon near 90 degrees to your body aiming to hit them in the face.

Use fast feints varying how far you get into each attack idealy they shouldnt know when you will reelease and either should you.

Block accurately and dont use attacks to change block direction right left right is bad unless you know exactly what your oponent is doing.

If you get a solid hit stay close in case you have knocked them over.

Avoid ganks or very aggresive skilled players be an s key hero pushing the advantages you have, dont get caught in hit for a hit you will be slower.

use pauses, wiggles and air hits they look very strange when doing little fast feints and can really throw your opponent off.

If you're using a 2h unbalanced weapon then you gotta be real careful and make sure you're never outreached.
1H stab is the fastest, strongest and longest 1H animation. There's no reason NOT to use it in all instances. I don't know if it's OP, but it's boring. 1H used to be fun because you had a fast (left), long (right) and the most devastating attack (stab) and had to choose the best attack for each occasion.

Thanks you for all the advice! I'm gonna try to use the Great Long Bardiche soon so hopefully I can improve with it little by little over time! Also, Rhaelys I've been wondering what your build is, you seem to swing so fast with that thing! 0.o

I use 39/3 36/3 builds with str builds , Use a wep like morningstar and just do delayrs while moving the wep up and down. Also chamber alot if you can do it , chambers are my main tricks when str build.

Seduction used to rock the War Cleaver to devastating effect. He'd always turn like crazy during his feints, so despite the short swing distance due to unbalanced, it looked like a real swing.

Another note: As I shielder, I HATE this mechanic, but the bar mace/LHSM/etc can stun even 7.5 weight shields and almost any weapon block on held attacks, allowing you to get a free hit afterwards if the person doesn't realize they are block stunned and tries to attack anyway. There are plenty of skilled unbalanced weapon users who never feint, just use cleverly timed holds.
