I won't put it all the way in, don't worry.
So... ... ...
During a strat battle people often call out "left flank" "right flank" "no the other left flank" "no more left than that" "no that's too far, back a bit" "so you mean the middle?" "yeah that's it!"
It can get pretty impossible to keep track of all of the shit that's going on, not only as a member of the fighting force but also as a commander.
I've taken to the habit of making my spawn South and the opposition spawn North. It makes everything much simpler, you then have set values. East is always east no matter which way some one is looking, so when they panic and yell "heavy cavalry from the left." when in fact they are looking at you back at spawn, so you turn left and get speared in the back of the head. Instead they hopefully yell "cav from the east" and you turn around and poke someone with a pike.
Another addition to this is to break the map up or the fief into 4 quadrants;
North West, North East, South West, South East.
It's pretty self explanatory but it's really helpful for everyone to visualize the field in that way. Instead of saying "the flag on the hill you derps." You can say, "the tallest hill in the south east quadrant, look for the flag". It gives everyone a clearer (well it can if they understand the idea) concept of where things are and I've found it makes directing people about a lot easier.
So yeah... Hope that's helpful to people
