I did the same and couldn't find a way to make my alt main, then I asked Meow in IRC and he said that you can only make characters created after deleting your main as your main character. So you can't make any of the existing alts as your main anymore, you have to make new character after deleting your main :P

No an alt cannot become a main unless you give Meow a blowjob (or a collector's barbie).
