I have in the strategus section argued for the disparity between the action gamer and the strategy gamer. Strat cannot satisfy both and often people respond to attacks in strategus: "You hate us? Why you attack us?" hence taking attacks personal.
Instead people try to make arranged fights and rpg battles to avoid "drama" and hostility.
An importat step to let strat be strat would be to create a league. A fully sanctioned official cRPG league with on-site mechanics.
The League would be wiped every half year. Have several categories (Solo, 5, 8 and 12). Awards to top 3.
Rules to be agreed upon.
This would require coding, yes.
This would distract time from strat, yes.
This would be a epeen contest, mayhaps.
Yet I think it would keep the community together, allow it to wage war in strat while being friendly in the league.
It would give the action gamer something to satisfy his twitchy addiction and give time for the strategy gamer to plan in strat.
It would give a goal for small clans, create events and hold a purpose for many players.
In short. When you get a new programmer, get another or have him make a league first, then fix strat.
Cheers.
p.s
The specifics of the league need to be discussed and arranged. My point is it needs to be offical, through the webpage and with forum medals and bragging rights.
