not really, because it differs from the other persons as well.

huh?  View distance is hardcoded to terrain.

Ok so I know view distance out of forest is 70....70 what? miles, kilometers, meters, light-years?

Why cant we have a circle or some sort of reference on OUR map, so we know how far we can see based on the terrain approximately?

Judging by the formulas I've seen, to do it accurately, you would have to check every pixel in a certain radius to see if it can view you based on your terrain and it's own. That would be a huge strain on the server

Why not make it so the larger the army, the farther away you can see them. It would make sense. Small scout party's would be much harder to see and add in more tactics like small groups laying a trap for a larger one.

I think this would be a better choice, right now there is no difference betwen people with 100 and 10.. atm you know others people numbers too far away.

what about not moving for more than 1 hour puts you in hiding mode, and, depending on your troop amount, reduces the distance you can be seen from by half or more. Needs more thinking (and coding :P)
+1 automatic hiding, one less thing we need to click and works anyway is customer friendly

it should depend also on terrain, i can hide in a forest pretty fast, but on open plains or on the desert i would need to dig a whole i guess, where it easier to hide behind rocks in the mountains which would support scouts in the mountains which have higher view range.

all in all this would enable the bandit style , attack, then run and hide
learn from the past, live the moment, dream of the future

It would also require a way to sustain yourself, other than being in a fief.
