Lag/Freezing

Before we start, I play on a 2 year old laptop - so I already run my graphics on the lowest settings.

About 3 days ago, I could play fine, lag free, no freezing at all. Over the past few days I have been getting lag spikes and freezes that lasted about half a second. Now, at the time of posting this, I get 1 second freezes every 10 seconds and lag spikes frequently. I also tried installing the lower textures mod but that hasn't helped at all (and maybe even made it worse).

Is there anything I can do to fix this apart from formatting or getting a new computer?

Some people don't get any. Others get it with all kinds of different hardware, new, and old. I've tried everything, different hardware, dif settings etc. I still get crazy lag spikes, as do alot of people. I did have alot less lag problems before the last patch though.

i get horrible lag spikes at times and its been going on for a while.

its not my rig i just got a new one, its not my internet cuz i checked and double checked it, i figure its the servers.

never had this before but its becoming increasingly irritating.

I get them and I have a fairly high end box  (although its getting older now). I finally came to conclusion its most likely the servers and /or net code. The larger servers (NA btw) have them occur much more frequently but I can (and occasionally) get them on smaller ones. Have had trouble reproducing and determining the cause (has happened on duel lately but can not recall the  problem before on duel servers). All other applications run smoothly or if have problems have been able to find and correct except for this one on this game (does not happen in Native).
How often do the servers connect to crpg for updates? have wondered if I am freezing up then. Isn't there a new server not connected to database might go there to see if it happens there.
Can be annoying when on the rare moments when you are having a great time doing good and lock up to come back dead.

When you start the game, the splash appears, click "configure", go to the last tab (advanced) and check "force single threading"

I get this problem allot I think Lag/Freezing kills me more often then anything else.  My computer while older is well within the specs of this game, but even thought I run it on the lowest settings on Dx7 I still get this problem.  I find that I encounter this issue mostly on the siege server especially when it goes over 60 players.

In my mind it might have something to do with how the characters respawn in siege or how the update of xp and gold is handled on the server, but I really don't know.
