A good shielder is a dead shielder (archerĀ“s speech).

Depends mainly on your fighting style, if you like to dance and strike fast your enemy go for a 15/21 build with ps5 ath, shld,wm 7, if you like to strike hard, go for 24/15 with ps8, ath, shd, wm 5. You can go for 18/18 with 6 in skills.
Now some build give you more point like 21/15, which let you 7 skill points for IF or riding (or throwing but you need to splitt wpf).

If you search the forums there is a lot of topics for either 2h or shielders...
If you are new to being a shielder i would say that high str over agi would help you the most...
Having higher agility requires a little more skill then ther other way around, so 21/15 to get the 5 shield skill and wpf (prop athletic if you like the speed).

Don't be one of those turtle guys that force others to bring an axe to the fight.

Rather, try to be a linebreaker. Use the shield to protect yourself while your team piles in behind you.

Being the point of a spear is an excellent way to gain the advantage.

Very true. There's just 1 downside to that. Nobody will remember the shielder who went up the ladder first and broke their line. They will only remember the 2h who came up behind him and got the opportunity to kill the distracted defenders.

The problem is even if you are number 1 in NA you are still only number 467 in EU or the worst in AUS(number 17)

Best way to play a shielder is aggressively. My two favorite shielder builds are as follows:

This one is good for slugging it out, giving and taking hits.
str 21
agi 15
IF 7
PS 7
Athletics 5
Shield 5
WM 5

OR

this one is good at dancing in and out of range.
str 18
agi 21
PS 6
Ath 7
Shield 5
WM 5

OR

If you can manual block, you can drop your shield and become a whirling dervish of death with this build. This is my current fav:
str 21
agi 18
IF 7
PS 7
Ath 6
WM 3

This is my build, you hit hard and you still keep a decent speed.

I appreciate your build and I can see how it's effective, I just don't think it's a good shielder build. It doesn't have a shield :P

if its your first time playing as a shielder, I would definitely have 5 or more athletics, or you'll be getting backpedaled by 2h spammers.  Use a long weapon to start off with, and slowly shorten it and get used to the range
