If you have viking conquest (it's worth the purchase if you like M&B) it's really fun to build up an army of javelineers. Crossbows barely exist and are not end-game beasts like in vanilla, bows are good as usual but throwing weapons are buffed into proportion with archery (considering quiver size). It is amazing to see a hail of spears break a shield wall, then fire again immediately and lay waste to your enemy. You can play sandbox mode on the British Isles/France/Norse real world map and you get a whole new set of kingdoms and troop trees.
The RPG module is pretty good, but if you want to play single player and have played vanilla M&B enough times to feel burnt out it brings some new life to the game. Map, kingdoms, troop trees, etc. are really well done and feel just like "real" M&B in a different setting that happens to lay heavy on the real history bit.
