to crush through you need stenght and hold attack a bit, about knowckdowns , if you hit head you have higher chance to knock down. I tihnk thats about it

but does enemy str and shield level influence the chance? I thought that hitting legs may influence knock down more :D

Isnt it also about the enemies weapon weight / shield weight?

You just cant crush through a great maul or any other heavy weapon like mallet, warhammers or any other 4 + weight weapon... at least I never managed to.
