Fantasy Literature

I grew up reading fantasy books and the like, I really love a good fantasy book. Some of my favorite are the wheel of time, the farseer trilogy, and the prince of thorn series. Although I really liked the trilogy with the prince of thorns, I was awfully disappointed  in the way it ended. I'm curious what you've read, and what you have to say about it.

First fantasy books I read were propably The Belgariad series. Can't say I remember much of it though, but it must have been ok'ish since I read through the whole thing. 

After that I read Wheel of Time as well. It was good read and all.. though I might not have understood every little thing about the realm since I had to read them in English because there was no translated books around.

Also read a lot of Dragonlance books, which are probably my favorites. Great thing about these series is that you can't count on main characters always surviving. The series have very interesting and dark setting and lots of nasty turn of events through the books. It also got the coolest wizards and knights as well. 

Latest novels I've read have been Forgotten Realms trilogies. I really like the FR setting, but kinda hate how op heroes they made. It's all entertaining read though even just because of the vivid world.

A Song of Ice and Fire. Even tough I can't stand Dany and she's a bitch her chapters and others are better fap material then 50 Shades of Grey order

ASoIaF is pretty darn great, I defnitely vouch for it.

The Sword of Truth is pretty good tough.

Been a while but there's Prince of Nothing series.

Lot of sex and violence. Its about a bunch of kingdoms doing a crusade as well as a lot of backstabbing. Pretty good series but I haven't read them in a while. Now I want to reread it.

I'd give Brandon Sanderson a try.

Particularly the "Way of Kings" in the new Stormlight Trilogy. It's damn good.

Mistborn is an interesting take on Fantasy(where people "eat" metal for their powers) and is a good recommendation.

Is there anything good in this genre I could read without the author having a huge obsession with sex and violence?  Both feel forced in modern fantasy.

Aw shit. I forgot about the Black Company. Definitely recommend it as well.

I even have one of the books sitting on my desk under a bunch of paper too. Go figure.

I remember being a kid and somehow getting a copy of The Belgariad from my parents for Christmas one year. I finised that book within a week or two and then bought the whole series. After that I bought the follow up series the Malloeran and finished those, then bought Belgariad the Sorcerer and Althalus both amazing single books that i've read several times and each time love it to bits.

I've read all the Eragon books (ending is easy to guess), Game of Thrones i've read the Feast of crows and no further, read the first Prince of Throns book and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Started The Wheel of Time and am now on book 4.

I do like Simon Scarrow, Conn Igguldens history novels - (not part of the thread but both great writers)

Ive also completely blanked about a lot of authors i've read, next time i'm at my other house i'll find out for you, cos i'd recommend at least 80% of what i've read!

Right now I'm reading some newer Tad Williams stuff (Bobby Dollar), nothing too deep or stunning, but If you like his imaginative style and don't expect too much a fun trip so far! Btw I heard he is writing on a continuation of his Memory, Sorrow and Thorn trilogy, which I loved when I grew up. I'm not sure anymore if it's really that great but always kept some fond memories of it as a very cool LOTR clone.
