Strategus Technology Tree

I was just reading a topic about new Strategus ideas and came across one that had to do with ages such as bronze - iron- etc. After reading a few suggestions, I came across a post left by a certain DRZ member who proposed that Strategus have an implemented technology tree system, such as that of stronghold kingdoms. What I mean is if you wanted certain wooden items, you'd need 200-300 wooden blocks + an x amount of time. Different materials in different locations on the map would govern what could be manufactured, and would increase the need for trade if a faction wanted a certain type of equipment.
Here is a very crude example of what I mean:

Each advancement would cost a certain amount of an item. I think this idea was covered up by many posts and left behind, so I created this to officially resurrect it.

Counter point; This would further increase the gap between 'big' factions and tiny factions in addition to the whole troop number thing.

With this in mind I don't really think this is a good idea.

Beside that new factions would have a really tough time against old juggernauts.
