Rise of Nations were so epic! I miss that game

My oldest gaming memory would have to be playing Golden Axe. I used to sit on an old wooden chair whilst I played and it was incredibly uncomfortable to sit on for longer than 10 minutes. I can remember always getting frustrated when the enemies would knock me off of my giant lizard or when those little goblin-like-things would come on to the screen and you would have to try and hit them but despite knowing that they were going to appear, I would always end up being surprised by them.

I generally avoid playing old, old games these days. I find that when you remove the nostalgia goggles, they really aren't as great as we remember them to be.

Golden Axe was a blast. Coop was a lot of fun. I think I was a bit in love with the Amazon/Barbarian chick.

What you say about Nostalgia is generally true, but not for all games. Some games still work great today (e.g. original X-Com).

I used to play the game with my siblings and parents. It was always fun regardless of how bad we did. I played the dwarf everytime but I understand what you mean about the chick.

I started playing Rise of Nations with a couple clan mates, and it's just as great as I remember it.  Very intense and fast paced, even with research set to most expensive and very slow.

Also, does anybody still play the first Starcraft game?  May consider re-installing that if there's still anybody on the multiplayer.

Worst thing about RoN was the nuclear wars. I used to play with a capped timeline, cause that shit was just too boring

Oldest PC games that I still play occasionally are "Dungeon Keeper"and "Simcity4". What I used to play most when young was "Tiberian Sun", I still think NOD is one of the coolest factions ever.

Played a game of RoN last night with Larry the Magical Cheetah.  Started with the Chinese / Russian conquest of England and ended with a global thermonuclear apocalypse.

Only if you leave nukes on, we played another game with 3 of us and 5 AI on the map with the Industrial age cap and it ended up in  bloody, attrition filled trench warfare that lasted for an entire hour by itself.  Still very fun, makes me wish they still made games with that kind of variation.

Age of Wonders: Shadow Magic is an absolute blast to play with friends despite coming out in '03.

Visiting my mother this week ( GF 210 in her PC ) - satisfying my game-hunger with Diablo 2 Still fun! Rolling a Necro with skeletons, Duriel ( act 2 boss ) raped me so bad, i wanted to un-install Otherwise, much better game, compared to D3. Blizzard turned into a greedy shameless scam... Some say you can't polish a turd, but Blizzard and MythBusters proved everyone wrong.
