"Connection to server is lost" Simple Question!

Just a quick question. I had to move my desktop at home up two floors, setting me very far away from my router. I think it is because of this that I am now frequently disconnected from servers via the classic "Connection is lost". When this happens, I remain connected in TS with a minor hiccup, and my connection remains with my router. My question is, if I moved the router closer to my desktop, would it resolve this issue? Or is this unrelated?

If you use WiFi, moving up 2 floors is a pain for your connection.

We ended up buying a new router, because our old router just does not have the range for our home. I remain connected to the wi-fi, but I am often getting limited internet access. Even worse is that the proposed new location for the router does not work (the modem continuously blinks on Send). Not quite sure what to do at the moment. I am leaving for school this weekend, but I would like to resolve this issue for Spring and Summer break.
