When you buy excess meat, wrap it in tinfoil to keep in the freezer. Before you place it in to freeze, use a sharpie or other marker and place the date on the outside (very important you don't put it on the inside of the foil) and then make sure that you rotate it with any other meat that you have placed previously. Newest dates in the back, oldest dates in the front!

Depending on where you live, dates can get pretty expensive.  Typically you can find them at most grocery stores, and they are generally sold in their final sun-dried form.

They are an excellent source of potassium, and are most commonly found in middle eastern dishes.  On a scale of of 1 - 10 (1 being prunes, 10 being craisins) I'd give them a 7.
